Another lovlely song

Stumbled upon this nice song by Elton John. It features in the Rocky 5 Soundtrack, the only fine thing Sly Stallone did in his film career. The song is really inspirational..............check out.
These battered hand are all you own
This broken heart has turned to stone
Go hang your glory on the wall
There comes a time when castles fall
And all that's left is shifting in the sand
You're out of time, you're out of place
Look at your face
That's the measure of a man

This coat that fits you like a glove
These dirty streets you learned to loveS
o welcome back my long lost friend
You've been to hell and back again
God alone knows how you crossed that span

Back on the beat, back to the start
Trust in your heart
That's the measure of a man
It's the fire in the eyes, the lines on the hand
It's the things you understand
Permanent ties from which you once ran
That's the measure of a man

You've come full cirlce, now you're home
Without the gold, without the chrome
And this is where you've always been
You had to lose so you could win
And rise above your troubles while you can
Now you can love, now you can lose
Now you can choose....................
That's the measure of a man

Apprentice Seasion Three

Today my favourite TV show "The Apprentice:Part 3" aired on India. Last season as I watched it, I felt the need for speaking my mind about some of the decisions made( as if that mattered! ). But now I got my blog to give a url to my random thoughts. Today's episode was a good one. Though the choice of people looks a bit odd - we must remember that the ultimate value of a TV show is viewer's attention and the Donald must give that through colourful array of contestants. The teams were divided as "The Booksmarts" vs "The Streetsmarts" - nice labels. Their job was to make, market and sell burgers for the "Burger King". Streetsmarts won, but in the boardroom, a good decision was taken. There was a guy called Danny who looks simply ridiculous on the surface(though very creative with his musical ideas, writes Rock Operas, has worked with Medialab MIT, is the CEO of his own corp which has Fortune 500 clients and more,my soft corner is ROCK MUSIC!)- tries to be a business leader in hippy outfit! But for this particular task, the booksmarts lost due to poor leadership from Todd, a sales exec. He looked very impressive, seemed to be in charge and delegate everything properly and when the moment came, nothing seemed to be in order!! And in the boardroom, everyone other than Kendra tried to make a scapegoat out of Danny. But this time, unlike the case of Andy in season 2, the Donald did the proper thing - fired Todd whose actions led to the loss. He was the main reason.
Anyway, the season promises to be exciting with the fight being labelled as successful high-school passouts vs fresh,high-profile college grads. I'll be glued to the scene on friday nights - despite all the compulsions to be a profittable TV program, The Apprentice still remains an enjoyable business case study. Keep it up, NBC.

I have seen GOD

I have seen the god of guitar play his magic music with my own eyes.............LIVE FROM 15 FEETS................I don't have the linguistic mastery to do justice to the heavenly performance, so it's better to just say that

DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!I HAVE SEEN SATCH WITH MY OWN EYES!
One big thing is the man’s professionalism. He was supposed to take the stage at 7. He did. He didn’t need a long sound check – just got started. And the break he needed between songs was less than 1 minute in every case! He performed with the exact same enthusiasm from 7 to 9.30 for two and a half hours with incredible joy! No stops, No excuses, No Sound Checks. Only pure showering of heavenly sound from the God of Guitar!
Here are some photos that I took with my cell cam of the show. Enjoy and KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD!

About Shyamal-da

I was thinking about making a post about Shyamalda(Mr. Shyamal Ganguly) whom I met last Friay. Quite a remarkable personality - he is the president of JUGAA - Jadavpur University Global Alumni Association and the president of Sigmabit Technologies . Me and Debamitro with few other team members of Computer Jagat met him regarding several matters and the experience was worth. He is a passout of ME, Mech. in 1962! We got lots of experience and insight about life, industry and JU Alumni's status from him. I am really bowled over by his personality and will remember this experience of meeting him. Will be having another sitting with him shortly. Looking forward to it.
Anyway, today's my date with Joe Satriani!!! WHOAAAA!!!

Killing is their business, and the business is fine!

Here is something from today's Calcutta Times. Now I am getting confused! What is dream and what is reality?Any Morpheus out there for help? Megadeth after Satch? Whooooooaaaaaaaa!!!
"
The surprise over the Joe Satriani show has hardly subsided when word comes that one of the primary metal biggies of the world, Megadeth, is all set to rock India in October. Yes, even though it sounds unbelievable, it is true. And it is the same guys who are bringing in Joe Satriani. Confirming the event, Cyrus Gorimar, director of the event management company which is behind Satriani's tour to India, said, "The Megadeth tour is confirmed. The performance is slated to be sometime in October. We have now decided on Mumbai and Bangalore as being the two venues for their performance. Depending on how the Joe Satriani show is received in Kolkata, we will decide whether we shall fly Megadeth there or not."
"

So what do we need to do during Satch show? I am sure Kolkata Rock fans( though the community is a sheer minority ) are gonna fire all shells on that sacred day. So Mr. Gorimar( Isn't he the Brahma drummer as well? ), don't hesitate. Bring Mustaine right in - and let Kolkata be on fire with the symphony of destruction.

The God is coming!!!

Its final and official now. The God of Guitar is coming to Calcutta, and performing in Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. Yes, I am talking about Joe Satriani! And boy, this ain't no fairy tale. Thus far all the Rock icons coming to India have missed Calcutta - gods like Knopfler, Waters, Purple, Stones and even ppl like Bryan Adams and Sting! But now is the time for payback, and with none other than Joe!!! I have already got my Rs. 400 ticket, too bad I can't afford the Rs. 900 ones! It doesn't matter! Calcutta is gonna rock on Sunday with SATCH! I can't wait............JUST CAN'T WAIT!!! I am going to listen to Joe Satriani, Live, in Calcutta! Tell me I am not dreaming! I've heard Brahma is going to open the show.......they are good. Heard from them in OAT 2 years back. They did a fine version of "Am I Evil" and another rock version of "Imagine"(Yes, John Lennon's one) without making a mess of it. I enjoyed the show until it was stopped for some very cryptic reasons. Doesn't matter. SATCH is coming!!!

Dilbert's Law of Money

Dilbert's Law

Engineers Vs. Business

Engineers and scientists will never make as much money as business executives. Now we have a mathematical proof that explains why this is true:

* Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power.
* Postulate 2: Time is Money.

As every engineer knows,

Work
------ = Power
Time

Since
Knowledge = Power
and
Time = Money
we have:
Work
------ = Knowledge
Money

Solving for Money, we get:
Work
------------- = Money
Knowledge

Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity! - regardless of the amount of Work done.

Conclusion: The Less you Know, the More you Make.

Note: It has been speculated that the reason why Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard's math program was because he stumbled upon this proof as an undergraduate, and dedicated the rest of his career to the pursuit of ignorance.
